Amy Wasterlain, MD
Dr. Amy Wasterlain is a board-certified, licensed, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with special expertise in direct anterior hip replacement, minimally invasive knee replacement and complex joint replacements.
She treats hip and knee pain, including arthritis, fractures, trauma, or infections, both non-operatively and operatively. Dr. Wasterlain places an emphasis on expedited recovery and regularly performs joint replacements as outpatient procedures when appropriate.
Her practice is focused on minimally invasive primary hip and knee replacements; Dr. Wasterlain always utilizes muscle-sparing techniques for primary procedures. She is also trained in complex revisions and is an expert in advanced reconstruction techniques for failed or painful total knee or hip replacements.
Dr. Wasterlain earned her BA in molecular biology (magna cum laude) at Princeton University, her MD at Stanford University, and completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, where she served as executive chief resident, overseeing 65 residents. Dr. Wasterlain completed a one-year post-residency fellowship in adult reconstruction (hip and knee replacement) at the world-renowned Rothman Institute in Philadelphia.
Currently, Dr. Wasterlain teaches at MidState Medical Center and also lectures at large conferences.
She was named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2023.
Dr. Wasterlain lives in Guilford, on the Connecticut shoreline, with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, downhill skiing, hiking, gardening and quilting.
